The University of Kashmir, Srinagar has announced a remarkable achievement in the field of Home Heating Technology. The institution has secured a patent for its latest innovation, THE SMART ROOM HEATER, a revolutionary device configured to operate on low voltage under blanket usage. This pioneering device is specifically designed to enhance both safety and efficiency, in home heating, and addressing unique challenges during blanket usage.
A Collaborative Effort
The creation of this innovative heater is the outcome of a collaborative effort led by Senior Assistant Professor Prof. Rouf ul Alam Bhat, with significant contributions from an alumnus Jehangeer Aurshad and a team of talented student innovators: Simran Hameed, Bazila Farooq, Bazillah Sameen, Seerat Bashir, and Wasifa Saleem. Their combined efforts have resulted in a device that provides a reliable heating solution for cold climates.
The Unique Patent and Institutional Support to it:
The Indian Patent Office, on June 13, 2024 granted Patent No. 541718 to THE SMART ROOM HEATER, officially recognizing its innovative design and its practical utility in the field of Home Heating Technology.
The development of project was supported by the Centre for Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) at the Institute of Technology (IoT), Zakura Campus. Dr. Bilal Ahmad Malik, Coordinator at CIIE, expressed optimism about the future impact of this technology by stating “We believe that the patented technology will make a considerable impact, and we look forward to exploring commercial partnerships to bring this innovation to market” during an interview.

Er Rouf ul Alam Bhat, the visionary leader of the team, has a notable/distinguished history of innovative achievements and is renowned internationally by experts and scientists for them.
He has consistently emphasized on the importance of creative thinking in solving everyday problems and has always encouraged students to adopt an out-of-the-box approach by stating-
